Where to explore for coral reefs in Trancoso
The area of Trancoso, Bahia is also known for its spectacular coral reefs. In fact, the town’s church located in the main square “quadrado” is constructed with coral blocks, amongst other local materials such as whale bone, clay and thatch.
However, if you want to see living coral, Praia dos Coqueiros in Trancoso should be your first port of call if you want to see some of the most beautiful examples of unspoiled coral reefs and native colourful fish. Also, Praia do Espelho, though technically not in Trancoso but just a short drive away, is also a superb spot to find stunning reefs teeming with diverse species of fish. Best spot for surfing in Trancoso
Kite surfing is said to have been invented in Trancoso, Bahia, by Swiss surfer, David Varilek at the end of the 1990s, and has since become a firm favourite around the world. If you enjoy surfing (or kite surfing), then you should head to the often-deserted waters of Itaquena beach, which also plays host to a surf festival. However, it's important to know that Itaquena is a protected area and can only be accessed on foot.
