Firstly, let’s whet your appetite by briefly going back to where it all began…
About Trancoso
For the uninitiated, Trancoso dates back to the 1500s when the village was created by the Portuguese and until the 1970s it remained firmly off the radar for tourists. Since then, it has gained a small but steady following amongst tourist who appreciate the idea of living in an unspoiled, idyllic beachside paradise. Today, infrastructure and modern amenities are in place, yet it still retains a sense of seclusion, with rudimentary roads still providing the only access in and around the village.
Completely untouched by mass tourism, this corner of paradise, is popular with wealthy international and Brazilian investors and holiday makers, who want to experience this laid-back lifestyle and to snap up some of the best property for sale in Brazil.
Quadrado
When you talk about Trancoso, it is impossible not to mention the village square. The Quadrado, is a large rectangle of grass surrounding by colourful houses that serves as a communal meeting place for locals and tourists of all ages, to sit chat, stroll and enjoy the vibe. At one end there is the São João Batista church and some shops, stalls, picnic tables and even a football pitch where locals have a kick around when the sun goes down. You will also find some excellent rustic restaurants and food stalls around the Quadrado, so let’s start here…
Capim Santo
If you are looking for a relaxing venue serving high-quality fresh and organic cuisine, head down to Capim Santo. This sustainable restaurant surrounded by tropical gardens is the oldest restaurant in Trancoso. It was originally focused on a macrobiotic menu, but today the emphasis is on using the Brazilian ingredients and original recipes to produce creative a wide range of superb fish and seafood dishes designed to excite the senses.
Ideally located just a short walk from the beach and at the heart of the historic square, Capim Santo is one of the most traditional restaurants in the village. Open since 1985, it serves delicious local dishes and is surrounded by tropical gardens. It offers a feel-good experience that tempts you back time and time again.
Flô
Restaurante Flô, also located on the Quadrado, is renowned for its superb setting, surrounded by lush palms, rustic wooden tables and boho style raffia pendent lights. Of course, it isn’t only the décor that draws us in, this restaurant offers and exciting Brazilian fusion menu created using only the freshest ingredients, perfect for a relaxed dinner or a big night on the town! There is also Praia Flô on the beach and another specializing in Asian cuisine on Trancoso’s main avenue.
Favoritto Trancoso / Favoritto Golf, Terravista
Staying around the Quadrado, you’ll find the Favoritti Trancoso, where you can enjoy a more international menu and there is a good selection of wine, whilst enjoying fantastic jungle and sea views. However, if you like the ambiance on the menu, you should also try the second restaurant, Favoritto Golf in Terravista. Golfers and gastronomes will equally enjoy the atmosphere and menu at Restaurante Favoritta Golf located in the Terravista golf resort.
Upon entering, you are instantly welcomed by the modern rustic decor with artfully hanging wicker shades, intimate lighting, and raked double-height wooden ceilings. Run by renowned chefs, Eduardo Avelar, Fred Trindade and Felipe Rameh, the menu specialises in contemporary Mediterranean cuisine. You can choose a buffet, tasting menu, French style and much more, it is also a great venue for a wedding and other celebrations.
Praia das Tartarugas
Another lovely restaurant that is perfect for drinks or a long leisurely lunch is Praia das Tartarugas in Terravista. There are two areas, one is literally on the beach where you can enjoy drinks and snacks, and the other in the jungle, allowing you feel at one with nature as you tuck into a delicious menu of Brazilian, Mediterranean and South American dishes.
Floresta, Rio da Barra
Last but definitely not least, Floresta Restaurants is located in a jungle at the heart of rubber plantation, where you dine outside at tables under the trees and marvel at the wonderful views at every turn. A menu of traditional Brazilian cuisine, including rural recipes made only with local ingredients, is a great way to enjoy and enjoy and learn about Bahian cooking, in enchanting surroundings.
