Belmonte, founded in 1764, was once the centre for coffee exports in Brazil. Belmonte’s town centre pays testament to the town’s rich history with wide streets and Portuguese architecture. It is also home to the Museu das Cadeiras Brasileiras (MUCA – Chair Museum) the first museum in Brazil to be dedicated to furniture. However, Belmonte is better known for its stunning beach and as being the location where you can find some of the best of Brazil’s beach real estate.
Located on the Discovery Coast in the south of Bahia, around 70kms from Porto Seguro city and airport, this corner of paradise has only recently been discovered by tourists. Belmonte beach is known for its dark coloured sand and sweet water from the Jequitinhonha River, and together with the neighbouring beaches, this area is a treasure trove of river islands, nature flora and fauna, mangroves, preserved coral and beachside coconut trees.
